How do you get your kids to keep their room clean? We have issues with this and it drives me crazy. I know they have too much stuff in there, but even when we took all the toys and stuffed animals out we still ended up with clothes and pajamas and shoes all over the floor. The laundry shoot is right outside their door and yet everything still ends up on the floor. HELP!!!!
My dd is not great with this either. I just keep reminding her that clothes do not go on the floor. I stopped picking them up. She doesn't have toys in her room other then some art supplies around her desk. It's mostly a clothing issue.
SIGH I don't know ... I need help with the whole house, not just one room. Toys and books and crayons everywhere. SIGH
We struggle too! We have decided that bedroom cleanup is part of our bed time routine. We helped them each get their rooms to perfect condition, then, every night at bed time they are told to go make sure their room is clean. We check it, and if it isn't done right, they are asked to fix whatever it is that needs fixed. It has, at least, helped.
They are both doing much better as they get a little older, but a favorite of mine was to go in and take some of their "favorite" things. At that point they had to "earn" them back. Amazing how clean the rooms will get when the Uggs are in my closet!
Anna hates cleaning her room but I recently started telling her that if she didn't clean up then I would come in after she was asleep and take anything she left out on the floor. She didn't believe me one night and left a bunch of stuff out and I took it and she didn't get it back. It was mostly stuff that I don't think she really cared that much about but she was still upset the next morning. She ended up forgetting about it all though and I donated it all to Goodwill! Now when she complains or whines about cleaning her room I just calmly say "No problem. You don't have to clean it. I'll come clean it up after you go to bed." That's all it takes to get her to clean her room now. No yelling, no threats, nothing. It worked great for us!
Tomorrow I will be cleaning it while they are at school and everything will be boxed up in the basement again. We have done the earning back thing as well but somehow they ended up getting too much back!
Thanks so much for sharing that photo. I always think that my house is the only one that looks like that. My kids are both slobs, but we're all so busy sometimes it's easier for me just to straighten up than to get them to do it. Just reminded them about it the other night, in fact, and mentioned that if they didn't keep up their rooms their allowance would drop.
I am happy to say that the photo is not their room! Their room is bad and that photo makes me feel even better about my messy house as well!!
